You don't have to use Activate abilities if you don't want to. If you already knew that, and drank the poison anyways, I appreciate the curiosity.
Alternatively, if you drank the poison after getting stuck at the Locked Door, you may want to reread the reminder text for Equip. You should have two items in front of you when you come across the Locked Door.
